If you want to capture on film some of your scuba-diving adventures, Sony has a new waterproof camcorder that’s meant to help you do that.
This one is a brand new Handycam camcorder that’s able to capture Full HD video and will soon become available in Europe.
If you want to submerge it, you should know that it can be taken to a depth of maximum 5m and can also withstand shocks when dropped from maximum 1.5m. The Sony Handycam GW55VE is also dustproof, but that’s understandable given its waterproof ability. This one will record your adventures in 1920 x 1080p Full HD resolution and save the video in MPEG4-AVC/H.264 AVCHD format.
Other features coming with the waterproof Sony Handycam GW55VE include an Exmore R CMOS sensor that can capture still pictures of up to 20.4 megapixels, Sony’s G Lens featuring 10x optical zoom and a 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD display for preview.
Further more, the GPS feature will log your location while the image quality will be handled by the Pixel Super Resolution. The Optical SteadyShot will stabilize the image and you can use the Intelligent Sweep Panorama when you want to film wider scenes than usual.
The Sony Handycam GW55VE Full HD camcorder uses a Memory Stick Micro (M2) or MicroSD/SDHC card to capture your video and will become available in mid-May in Europe.
