This year a lot of so called rugged digital cameras have already surfaced and it seems more are on their way.
A rugged camera doesn’t always mean a chunky brick-like device, or so Sony would want us all to believe. The company has just unveiled its latest creation, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX20 rugged digital camera, coming in an ultra slim design that makes this one elegant as well as resistant to shocks or extremely cold weather.
If you’re one of those people who feed on adrenaline and adventure and want to capture those moments and show off to your friends and family, the DSC-TX20 seems to be just the camera for you.
Sony reports that their new rugged camera can withstand shocks when dropped from a maximum 1.5m, waterproof when submarged maximum 5 meters, freezeproof and dustproof.
The specs won’t disappoint in terms of quality and you’ll be able to find a 16.2 megapixel BSI Exmore R CMOS sensor, BIONZ image processor and 4x optical zoom Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens. The zoom feature can be extended to 8x thanks to the Clear Image Zoom techology and you will get image stabilization with the TX20 with the Optical SteadyShot option, including an Active Mode and blur-free video recording.
Sony has equipped the TX20 Cyber-Shot with a few picture effects as well, including Smile Shutter technology, Intelligent Sweep Panorama HR mode, Superior Auto mode, Motion Detection, Intelligent Scene Recognition mode, Face Detection technology and Background Defocus.
The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX20 features support for SDHC/SD/SDXC memory cards, comes with a 3-inch XtraFine LCD touchscreen for preview and you’ll also be able to hook this one up to your large screen TV with the HDMI output.
Sony’s CyberShot DSC-TX20 rugged digital camera will become available in a variety of colors, adding some style to this otherwise rugged camera and will become available in May for $329. You can pre-order it right now if you want to be among the first to own it.
